O3Spaces vs Alfresco - Collaboration Tools Compared

When people talk about document collaboration software, they usually think about O3Spaces and Alfresco and usually end up comparing both software to decide which is better than the other. Although both software boasts as important tools in document collaboration and both are highly regarded as potential alternative to Microsoft SharePoint, they are really different from one another. For instance, the Alfresco is an application that is an enterprise content management tool which fails short as a web content management tool which O3Spaces is all about. Upon installation, the O3Spaces needs you to download a software while the Alfresco will be given to you by the team that the company deploys. This means that if the software has glitches, you won’t have any problem at all considering that there is a team of IT experts that can look into the Alfresco tool whereas the O3Spaces do not.

When it comes to compatibility, the O3Spaces is compatible with web-based formats like HTML and PDF while the Alfresco is compatible to some web-based format but is more inclined to be more compatible with desktop documents like ODF, PDF and Microsoft document formats which the O3Spaces cannot support.

On the other hand, since O3Spaces is web-based, it can be supported by a lot of web browsers while the Alfresco can only support a few. Moreover, the O3Spaces also support more features similar to desktop document collaboration tools like calendars and even bulletins having Microsoft SharePoint in mind as their basis in creating these features. Unfortunately, there were some features in the Microsoft SharePoint that O3Spaces failed to include much to the demise of a lot of clients. Alfresco is the same as the O3Spaces when it comes to these features.

The good thing, however, is that these two software are always being developed to give more to their clients and to be still on the leverage with the best SharePoint alternatives in the market. Deciding which software is great for your enterprise really do depends on the kind of job that you want to do for your document collaboration. Although both tools still lack some of the best features of SharePoint, they can still perform tasks that most small enterprises need in order to manage their documents and their system.
